You don’t just yawn when you are tired – it could be seasonal too. It appears that yawning could help cool your brain, as we yawn more when the weather is cooler – see the paper in Frontiers in Evolutionary Neuroscience.

Pinocchio was nearly right – when you lie, your nose doesn’t grow but the temperature around your nose and the inner corner of the eye increases.

In the Mesozoic era, dinosaurs breaking wind (produced by bacteria in their guts) may have put 520 million tonnes of methane gas into the atmosphere every year. Methane is a greenhouse gas – this could explain why the temperature 150 million years ago was around 10 degrees C higher than it is now.
